2018 Unti Cuvee Blanc
WINEMAKER: Jason Valenti
COMPOSITION: 40% Grenache Blanc, 40% Vermentino, 20% Picpoul
Grenache Blanc provides body and texture, Vermentino offers expressive floral aromas and bright fruit, and
Picpoul brings a zingy lemon component. Being native to the Mediterranean all three grapes retain great levels of
natural acidity upon ripeness. This blend is greater than any of the individual compnents. It combines complexity,
texture and minerality in the format of fresh and fruity wine. The 2018 vintage shows up big time, meaning it has a
bit more concentrated fruit and acidity.
ABOUT THE VINTNER
George Unti grew up in California, splitting his time between the rugged Mendocino coast and his parents’ Central
Valley farm. After 39 years in the grocery industry, he returned to his farming roots, bringing with him a love of
Italian, French, Spanish and German wine. With his wife Linda and son Mick, a longtime wine professional, he
launched Unti Vineyards in 1997.
Specializing in Mediterranean-style wines, Unti produces small lots of estate-grown Barbera, Grenache,
Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Syrah and Zinfandel, a dry Rosé from Grenache and Mourvèdre and a handful of white
wines: Vermentino, Fiano and Grenache Blanc. Winemaker Jason Valenti, who began his career at the venerable
Paul Hobbs Winery, crafts the wines using a combination of modern and traditional artisanal methods to capture
what the Untis call “vineyard personality.” Noting striking similarities in soil and climate between their Dry Creek
Valley vineyards and the famed wine regions of Southern Europe, the Unti family has planted several varieties of
grapes not commonly grown in California. The natural fit between vine and site, coupled with low-intervention
organic farming practices, allows Unti to bring the best of Southern Europe and Northern California together
in each vintage.
