2016 Skipstone Faultline
Vintner Notes: Skipstone is a 200-acre private estate in Sonoma’s idyllic Alexander Valley, with 30 acres under vine on steep hillsides and rolling benchland west of the Mayacamas Range. Certified organic and sustainable, it’s divided into 40 separate blocks, each with their own distinct terroir, from which exceptionally small lots of wine are crafted.
Owners Fahri and Constance Diner purchased the estate in 2001 and immediately assembled a team of world-class experts to realize the potential of this remarkable site. Fahri’s years as a venture capitalist and entrepreneur dovetailed with Constance’s luxury brand marketing expertise, gleaned from positions at Cartier, Rolex and Formula 1, to ensure that Skipstone’s sights were set high from the very first vintage.
In 2006 renowned winemaker Philippe Melka joined the Diners, bringing his decades of experience and unrivaled artistry to the creation of Skipstone’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot, Viognier and signature red blends, including Preface, a more accessible estate-grown wine introduced in 2016. Skipstone also partners with France’s Diebolt-Vallois to produce a vintage Blanc-de-Blanc Champagne. Says Fahri, “We are in relentless pursuit of honest wines – wines that reflect and capture their place and growing conditions with purity and sincerity. As we listen intently to our estate vineyards, our wines speak eloquently of their origin.”
