2015 Fisher Coach Insignia
Tasting Notes: The Coach Insignia is comprised of the finest selected lots of Bordeaux varietals from the Fisher's Calistoga Estate. Nestled at the foot of The Palisades mountain range, these vines grow on an alluvial fan that slopes gently west, following Simmons Creek to the Napa River. The wine packs a serious punch: bold and explosive in the glass, the 2015 is going to need at least a few years in bottle to settle down. The flavors are dark, bold and incisive in this virile, brooding Cabernet Sauvignon. Hints of leather, smoke and scorched earth add complexity throughout.
Vintner Notes: Born into a family with historic ties to the auto industry, Fred J. Fisher turned his back to the Motor City and headed to San Francisco to build something of his own. He fell in love with an investment analyst named Juelle Lamb, and together they purchased an old homestead ranch high in the Mayacamas Mountains of Sonoma County. They cleared and planted, and with the help of friend, architect and fellow wine enthusiast William Turnbull, they built a winery with timber cut and milled on site. In 1979, they introduced the world to Fisher Vineyards. Since that initial release, the Fishers have added vineyards near Calistoga and divided their Sonoma mountain holdings. These diverse sources are the foundation for wines that express the unique terroir of vineyards as well as blends of exceptional complexity, harmony and balance. The second generation – Whitney, Robert and Cameron Fisher – now leads the business, which includes a new winery on the Napa Valley estate.
