2015 Carte Blanche Cabernet Sauvignon
Vintner Notes: Nicholas Allen’s family has been in the wine business since his great grandfather Clarence Dillon acquired Château Haut-Brion, in the celebrated Bordeaux region of France, in 1935. Growing up amid the rolling hills and horse farms of Bedminster, New Jersey, Nicholas earned an appreciation for fine wine at his grandmother’s table, and in 2007 he channeled that admiration and lifelong knowledge into his own small-production winery in the Napa Valley.
For Nicholas, the unique terroir of Napa and Sonoma offered the opportunity to produce limited, luxury wines in America, inspired by the French winemaking tradition. A new chapter in his family’s long history of winemaking, it was a fresh slate offering endless possibilities. He decided to call it Carte Blanche and to use, as its logo, the wax letter seal his grandmother had given him when he was a child. Working with founding winemaker Luc Morlet, he selected key vineyard sites, each with their own distinct personality, and began crafting wines inspired by their Old World predecessors.
