Karen Kargianis
Always drawing, painting and winning art contests as a child, Karen Kargianis went in another direction in her first years of college. She returned to a serious study of art in her early 30's. The granddaughter of Greek immigrants, her visits to Greece had a profound impact on her work. From the ancient art of the Greeks, the Etruscans and the Romans, through to the abstractions of Giocometti and Marino Marini, the influence of this progression is certainly seen in her exquisite ceramic figures. This echo of the past seems to give a timeless energy and depth to her work. Educated at Pacific Lutheran University and Evergreen State College, she also did a Post Baccalaureate Program at the University of Washington in Ceramic Sculpture. Her work can be found in many public and private collections throughout the West.
