John Toki
"Born into a family that savored the rich Japanese tradition of ceramics, Toki was also fortunate to have Robert Arneson and Peter Voulkos as influences and friends. He took his MFA from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, where he also teaches now. Author of two ceramic textbooks that are used in over 300 colleges and universities, he is also the owner and president of a ceramics supply company. Toki's large-scale ceramic sculptures possess a timeless quality with their archaeological feel, yet they have a freshness in their technical complexity and visual appeal. His work has been shown in the US, the Netherlands and Japan."
