Stephen Henriques
A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, where he took both his B.A. and his M.F.A., Henriques was influenced strongly by the abstractions and color use of Richard Diebenkorn, who taught at SFAA at that time. The soundtrack of that era was jazz, which also became a strong part of his abstract expressionist paintings, and remains so to this day. He now resides in Brazil and is part of the Latin jazz scene in that country, his imagery often appearing on CD covers and posters. His shimmering, colorful paintings clearly speak the language of someone who loves color and jazz and knows that "creativity is like love, something that is in a state of constant transformation, something you cannot control. You have to accept it and let it lead you."
