Matt Rogers
Rogers has always been involved in drawing and creating. In school he was the one who filled his note pads with drawings and doodles, filling the margins with notes. After many failed attempts at a traditional education he began his formal art education at the San Francisco Art Institute. There he was taught to use all resources to convey himself. Use any material available, nothing was off limits, there were no right or wrongs in the creative process, however he was to respect the process. His biggest influences are the Bay Area Painters. His first job was working for the Campbell Thiebaud Gallery in San Francisco. There he was fortunate to be introduced to the painters whom he had admired most while in school. Thiebaud, Diebenkorn, Park, Weeks, Wonner, Bischof, and Brown, were all represented by the gallery, and he was able to get a close up view. That experience had a direct effect on who he wanted to become as a painter.
